Friends of Mt Worth is delighted to welcome Voyage Fitness as sponsors of the 21 K “Heartbreak Hills” Challenge and the Kids Run. Voyage has a great Kids Foundation through which they support many activities aimed at getting kids out and active. Great to have you on board guys!
This event is hosted by the Friends of Mt Worth State Park and raises funds to help us maintain the Park for all to enjoy.
In many ways, this is the perfect event for all runners with a mixture of distances. For road runners, it offers the first taste for the trail, without being too intimidating as a relatively non-technical, non-remote, non-mountainous trail. For experienced trailites, the route still features stunning wilderness with forest viewpoints you won’t believe (and becomes a truly go-fast course with plenty of good twists and turns)
The run is offered in several options, with each entry fee being a donation to the Friends of Mt Worth State Park.
A 21k trail running most of the trails in the Park over some challenging hills and through the beautiful wet forest then to the top of a ridge overlooking Warragul, out to the Baw Baw Plateau and the Latrobe Valley;
A 15k trail through the same environment without the final ridge section;
A 6k trail up the ridge overlooking the Valley; and
A 2k Kids run for those up to 15. (Under 10’s must run with a parent/guardian)
Bib Pick up from 7:45 am
Runs will commence at:
8.30 am with the 21K, then at 8.45 am the 12K and at 9 am the 6K.
The 2k kids run will commence at 11 am. The briefing will be 5 mins before the start of each race.
A coffee van and ice cream van, Lion’s sausage sizzle and other foodie options will make the event a fun family day.
Registrations are capped at 100 in total so don’t miss out!
(Please note – No registrations being accepted on the day of the event.)

A chance to experience parts of Mt Worth State Park that most people don’t see is being offered by Strzelecki Bushwalking Club on Sunday May 20th as part of the 40th anniversary of the Park.
The 10km walk will start from Moonlight Creek picnic ground and will include the Waterfall Bower and pass some rare and endangered Slender Tree Ferns. With luck walkers might hear the Giant Gippsland Earthworm. A short bus ride will take walkers along McDonalds Track stopping at the summit of Mt Worth. Walkers will re-enter the Park for a walk over the hill on the northern side of the park with extensive valley views, then back down to the Moonlight Creek picnic ground.
The walk will be accompanied by Friends of Mt Worth State Park to provide information and to answer questions.
Places are strictly limited so bookings must be made with Wendy Cartledge on 51924036.
The Allambee Landcare Group, who had donated to our fundraising for our mower and trailer (see the sponsors page) also joined us for a working bee, helping to shift gravel as part of our restoration of the “Giants Circuit” walk. After a morning’s hard work we all enjoyed a restorative lunch!
As part of the Baw Baw Shire contribution to Senior’s Week we hosted a pleasant day of walks in the Park, with a picnic lunch. A lovely cool but sunny day was much enjoyed, with some kind complements from the guests on our guided walks.
Recently the Field Naturalists of Victoria held their annual excursion to Mt Worth. It is part of their on-going project with the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne to map Fungi across the state (FungiMap). This is Sally Green, a member of both Friends and the Field Naturalists, showing a variety of knitted versions of fungi species, and her hand knitted Fungi Hat! For more pictures and information go to our new page on Fungi!
Lyrebird season is getting underway, with multiple sightings even quite close to the car-park. This young fella was seen on the Lorkin Creek Track less than 100mtrs from the picnic area.
